Welcome to the world of Don, written, illustrated, and produced by Dan Youra.

The book is dedicated to presenting an alternative point of view of the person who is arguably the most well-known yet controversial person in the lives and politics of the world during the second and third decades of the twenty-first century – Donald J. Trump.

The artwork and analysis in this book fall into a middle ground between the extreme pro, and con treatments that are most common in the writings and commentary about The Donald.

The middle ground I choose is witnessed here in my art and words. It is a simpler, less explosive look at the man than is customary in the media. I see The Donald more like Clark Kent than Superman. I acknowledge how special he is. However, I treat him as more normal than eccentric. I relate to him as a father. Not as a god or demon.

The book is organized with the artwork featured on the even-numbered, left handpages and an essay titled “I Am Trump,” written by Dan Youra, on the odd-numbered, right-hand pages.

INTRODUCTION

“I am Trump” is an essay, I began writing in 2016 during Donald J. Trump’s first presidential campaign. My thoughts about the man evolved into what you can read here. I am not a psychiatrist, a philosopher, or a literati with professional expertise on these topics. I am an ordinary guy who, like many others, is trying to understand Mr. Trump and the Trump phenomenon.

I share insights into The Donald both through my artwork and words. During his first campaign, he called himself “The Donald.” I liked that. “Don” is friendlier yet. I use it here. I invoke the name “Don” as the title of this book.
